Travelling the Exotic Asia

Bangkok - The City of Angels

BangkokBangkok was founded as the Thai capital in 1782 and sited on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. Many development was established by following riverine pattern. For example, royal and other major buildings were constructed facing the river. Beyond, a nework of canals served as highways and byways into the larger urban area, hence the old soubriquet ‘Venice of the East’.

But today, those canals have been paved over to make way for the automobile. Then came expressways, flyovers, and so on. Amazingly, in the middle of massive modern development, Bangkok keeps its essence. (I think it’s really different with Jakarta, isn’t it?)

However, Bangkok is still a magical place - tolerant, funloving, and imbued with a feeling of freedom. The travellers can discover the unique amid the ease of the familiar in Bangkok.
