One way of telling whether you are a truly Japan lover or not is by measuring how deep your desire in eating fish or other kinds of seafood is. I am not making this up! In fact, this fact has made me from once not too fond of eating fish (not to mention raw fish) into a not a day without fish maniac!

Let’s say that you are not a truly Japan lover yet, meaning that you are not a real fish eater yet. In that case, I strongly suggest you to visit the Yaizu Sakana (Fish) Center.

Yaizu Sakana Center1

As the name suggests, here you can find just any kinds of fish and other seafood in fresh condition, processed or unprocessed. I still remember how I was amazed by this machine that processed a very hard smoked tuna into very thin tuna shred. Later I found that the hard tuna for making the tuna shred come from Indonesia.

Entering the Yaizu Sakana Center is just like entering a very large traditional fish market. Noisy sound of the fish seller offering their fish is very typical. Professional fish business people mixed together with ‘fish’ tourists is a very interesting and unique situation. No wonder many travel related photographers make sakana center as one of their favorite spot for picture hunting.

Yaizu Sakana Center3

Yaizu Sakana Center is located in the Yaizu City of Shizuoka Prefecture. This is one of several sakana centers in Japan. Most sakana centers in Japan are very well managed that they attract many tourists, both domestic and internationals.

Off course one very important reason why visiting sakana center is to enjoy the fresh fish or other seafood meals. Well, no need to worry about this, because in sakana center, you can eat fish till you drop!

Tuna for group

You have many eating place to choose, from small yatai (small eating corner) to a very large shokudou (eating hall). In Yaizu Sakana Center, most restaurants provide both personal menus and group menus. Even if you come with a very large group, there is a very large eating hall that can host up to 1,050 people at the same time! Here also, you can buy a whole fresh tuna for your group and have it cut into small pieces for sashimi.

Fresh Sashimi

Eating fish in the Japanese way will automatically direct our thought to the famous sashimi, which is a raw fish. I know for amateur fish eater, raw fish aren’t bearable sometimes. But this doesn’t mean that you can not choose many other fish cooks. However, one thing to remember, eating fish can be expensive in Japan. However, since you are in sakana center, you may find a luck in finding fresh, delicious, but fresh fish.

Now, are you ready to become a real Japanese?
