Travelling the Exotic Asia
In Ankara, we can find an extraordinary Roman bathing place, because it’s age is more than 500 years. At least some evidences said that.
This place is located in Cankiri street, in office district at Ankara. Actually, this place is open museum which divided into 2 part. The first part is the bathing place, and the second is street pillar bit in the east of bathing place.
When Mustafa Kemal Attaturk choose Ankara as capital city of Turki, majority of this area was still buried. The government did some exploration on 1944 and finally they found the Roman building complex, including the bathing place.
Overall, this place has 3 main room on the bathing place complex which has wide about 80 x 130 metre square. They are caldarium (hot room), frigidarium (cold room), and tepidarium (warm room) which the hot room and warm room have wider than cold room.
The bathing place has an unique method than other bathing place. You can take a bath in that place with Roman style. The activity is starting from apodyterium (changing room) then you go to tepidarium, a warm and dry room. On tepidarium, you can do some warming up and stretching of your muscle. Those activities has purpose to stimulate the sweat so you are ready to go to hot room.
Next activity is goint to caldarium, the hot and moist room which has temperature about 40 degree Celcius. You can ‘take a bath’ there. Finally, you enter the frigidarium.
Interesting with Roman bathing? Check your passport and take a visa to Turkey next weekend. ;-)
