Melayu Drum Is Almost Extinct

The progressive of period sometimes sacrifice some things around us. One of them is culture. Melayu drum, as one of traditional music instrument, is one of culture part that being a victim, since these days, many people prefer play a modern music instrument.

However, we can find many persons still take care of this traditional music instrument. Yusuf is one of them. This North Sumatera artist is still doing something to prevent (well, maybe to slowdown is the appropriate word) the extinct of this traditional music instrument. He open a business, making of Melayu drum, by himself since he knows alot about the making process.

His products were sold from Rp 600.000 until Rp 800.000 (about US$ 60-80) each, depends on the size and the pattern.

Unfortunately, his business does not have good prospect, at least from domestic market. The opposite thing is coming from abroad. Many orders were came from abroad, since they are really appreciate with the culture, also traditional music instrument.

So, how bout youth of Indonesia? Are you really not interesting with this your country asset? Will you let this extinct or being taken by foreigner? You have the answer, anyway.
