For entering Bali, basically a (foreign) tourist must have a visa. The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, as of February 1, 2004 , started the implementation of the Indonesia “Visa On Arrival” policy for tourists and business people alike.
The VOA policy can be written as follow:
The duration of visa-free is only 30 days and it is not extandable. This facility is valid only for citizens from countries listed below: South Asia Countries: 1. Brunei Darussalam 2. Malaysia 3. Philippines 4. Singapore 5. Thailand 6. Vietnam
Asia Countries: 7. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region 8. Macau Special Administrative Region
Others: 9. Chile 10. Morocco 11. Peru
Fortunately, the policy is not quite strict. This visa-free can be extended based on natural disaster, illness or accident, but it cannot be transferred to another type of visa (such as from study visa to business visa). Tourists whom overstay (for under 60 days stay) must pay a penalty of US$20 per day and for over 60 days stay there is a 5 (five) year prison sentence or a fine of Rp25,000,000 (it is about US$2,500).
Citizens from the following 36 countries not granted visa-free facility may apply for Visa-On-Arrival (VOA). Asia: 1. China 2. India 3. Japan 4. Saudi Arabia 5. South Korea 6. Taiwan Territory 7. United Arab Emirates
Europe: 8. Austria 9. Belgium 10. Denmark 11. Finland 12. France 13. Germany 14. Hungary 15. Ireland 16. Italy 17. Luxembourg 18. Maldives 19. Netherlands 20. Norway 21. Poland 22. Portugal 23. Russia 24. Spain 25. Switzerland 26. United Kingdom
Africa: 27. Egypt 28. Kuwait 29. Oman 30. Qatar 31. South Africa
America: 32. Argentina 33. Brazil 34. Canada 35. USA
Others: 36. Australia 37. New Zealand
These citizens from these countries need an approval of their visa applications from Immigration Office in Indonesia before traveling. 1. Afghanistan 2. Albania 3. Angola 4. Bangladesh 5. Cameroon 6. Cuba 7. Ethiopia 8. Ghana 9. Iraq 10. Israel 11. Nigeria 12. North Korea 13. Pakistan 14. Somalia 15. Srilanka 16. Tanzania 17. Tonga
