This word refers to an unique cremation ceremony which is held by Balinese Hindu community. This ceremony is not only can be held in Bali, because one my friend did this ceremony in Jakarta couple years ago (they do this in Lampung and Surabaya as well). Ngaben’s meaning is to chastisement the body before the body is disappear and the soul will reincarnate.
As it’s definition, cremation, in ngaben the body will be buried. The unique thing is, the buried process itself because the body is not buried directly, but there are some steps before. First, the family must do some preparatins, such as create some ’sesajen’ (I couldn’t find the match word in English. Is it the same with offerings?). Then they create a huge buffalo replica. in some ceremony, they didn’t create buffalo replica but garuda replica. Inside of it, the body is inserted (note: the body is ritually washed first). One of delicious food in Bali is Ayam Taliwang. The menu is quite simple. A spicy chicken (you can ask the HOT/savoury one if you think spicy is not enough) with 2 types, to be fried or to be grilled.
Actually, Taliwang is a little region in West Nusa Tenggara. I don’t know why Ayam Taliwang is more famous as a food comes from Bali (as far as I know).
When I went to Bali couple days ago, I had an opportunity to taste this food. Well, this is NOT my first time eating Ayam Taliwang, since it is became on of favorite foods in my family, both in Bandung or Jakarta. The driver took us in a tavern in journey to Bedugul. Well, you can see the tavern name in left pic. (well…this is not a promotion…) Read full entry »

Bedugul is name of a village in Bali. The weather is quite cool, my estimation is about 20-24 degree (Celcius). In Bedugul, we can find many places you must visit to such as Bedugul Village,
Bedugul Garden, Beratan Lake, Pura Ulun Dunu, and Candi Kuning Traditional Market.
The picture was taken when I and my wife visited Bedugul. The background is Pura Ulun Danu.

Tourism on Bali has started to gone back to normal again. Japanese still dominated the foreign tourist flow to Bali in the first three months of this year, a local tourism official said.
“Some 24 percent of a total of 346,942 foreign tourists who came to Bali in January-March this year were from Japan,” head of the promotion section of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurants Association (PHRI) I B Ngurah Kumbayana said on Saturday.
He said Australians who accounted for 10.3 percent of the foreign tourist flow were second on the list followed by Taiwanese (9.3 percent).
It couldn’t come sooner for Balinese. They were hit very hard by the bombing. Not only lives were gone, but also the tourists - main source of income for many. Now, after months of intensive promotion campaign by many parties, including the government, it seems that life has gone back to normal in the paradise.

Here’s a new Tara for you : she’s building a £1million villa in Bali with ensuite swimming pools, is completely clean from drugs, also building an orphanage in Bali, no longer a socialite and prefer staying at home with inner circle of pals. (well, with house like that, we’re sure that we’d like that too)
Holy wow. We never knew how much Bali can change someone before.
Her nose’s done too, she did a surgery last year to fix her collapsing nose. Now it’s good as before, and with her no longer touching drugs even with 10 feet pole, we’re sure that her nose will remain that way.
Oh, about her villa ? Well, it’s built on the paradise on earth, set in a beautiful walled garden, full of palm trees and flowers; fully-staffed (she even got her own butler). And she’s got a discount.
Anyway, we’re glad for her. And about time too. Best wishes to Tara from us here.

When travelling to Bali, be sure to visit Kopi Bali, located on the Bypass Road in Sanur. It’s said to be the “hang out of choice for Bali’s coffee aficionados.”
Have no doubts on the subject: Kopi Bali takes its coffee seriously. Coffee machines of every shape and size are displayed down the length and breadth of the shop and we have it on good authority that sacred offerings are routinely made to each of the percolating pieces of coffee hardware. Those in search of the perfect gift for a coffee-fixated friends will enjoy browsing Kopi Bali’s range of cups, milk steamers and mini-espresso machines.
Open daily at the Kopi Bali House - Coffee Art can be found at Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai 405D in Sanur. (*)
