Komodo dragons are the world’s largest lizards. The length of adult komodo dragons can reach about 2-3 metres (its about 7-10 feet) and the weight is approximately 45-85 kilogram (90-170 pounds).
They live on the islands of Komodo, Rinca and other tiny surrounding islands, and on the westernmost part of Flores Island in Indonesia. Komodo and Rinca are odd islands. They are dry, hot, and relatively barren compared to the lush and jungly islands to the east and west of them in the Nusa Tenggara island chain.
The Komodo dragons are placed in Komodo National Park which is located near the Lesser Sunda Islands in the border region between the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. Komodo, Rinca and Padar is the biggest location for them.
To reach Nusa Tenggara, the are many ways. You can transit to Bali first before you use boat to go to Nusa Tenggara. Other way, you can fly on a helicopter and use the helipad on Nusa Tenggara. Usually, the travellers book the hotel in Bali and they go the Komodo National Park using the travel agency.
I saw some agencies (in Bali) offering Komodo tour with various price. For average, it’s about 4-5 million rupiah (US$400 - 500) for a short trip (2-3 days).
The important thing is, to visit the komodo dragon, the travellers must prepare themselves with a light dress and bring a lot of water, since the weather of island is quite hot even in 6AM morning.
So, pick your wallet, prepare yourself with properiate equipment, and finally….meet the survive ancient animal ever…!!
