One important tourism event in 2008 is Visit Musi 2008. The event is based on Palembang, South Sumatera. From the event name, we can trace (or guess?) the main purpose of the event is to introduce and to popularize the Musi river, the biggest river that split Palembang, capital city of South Sumatera.The committee (the government is included) is seems seriously handle the event, by launching the website http://www.visitmusi.info/, in order to publish agendas and news for public. Using website as a promotion method is one advantage since public can get the latest information from the event.
Opening ceremony of this event has been held on January 5, 2008. Aburizal Bakrie, as Menko Kesra (Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare) opened and launched the event. Some ministers and government officials also were attending the launching, such as Hatta Radjasa (), Jero Wacik, and Syahrial Oesman (Governor of South Sumatera), Eddy Santana Putra (Palembang Mayor), Zamzami Achmad (Chairman of DPRD South Sumatera).
There are about 50 activities will be held during 2008 to support this event. The activities are split into 3 categories, they are international, national, and regional. For international activities, the committee will held triathlon, fishing, and aero modelling. For national category, festival Sriwijaya will be held. And for regional, some culture activities from each city will compete.
With held this event, South Sumatera Government predict about 1.6 million tourists will attend South Sumatera Province during 2008.
