I think Bengkulu is almost forgotten as a tourism region whereas there are many tourism potential locations such as the beaches, jungles, historical places, and many floras. The ironic thing is this potencies were found by Singapore Ambassador, Ashok Mirpuri.
He said Bengkulu has many marvelous places to be visited and he also said those potencies can attract many tourists, not only from Singapore but also from other countries. Of course, those tourists will come if the destinations were quite attractive and provide good accomodations.
Following his statement, Singapore is ready to do some cooperations with local government, if it’s needed, to develop those potential destinations. Well, actually there is an internal bounding between Singapore and Bengkulu since colonization period. From history, we read Deutsch did an exchange with Great Britain. Bengkulu was exchanged with Singapore.
From statistic, only about 8,000 tourists came to Bengkulu last year. About 7,500 tourists is domestic tourist and the rest is abroad tourists. Target for this year, more than 10,000 tourists come to Bengkulu. In average, it’s about 30% increment.
Sadly, the promo for Bengkulu destinations, as I mentioned above, were quite a little. I doubt the target can be fulfilled if the local government does nothing to develop and to manage the potency.
We’ll wait and see. the pic was taken from here

I was in Bengkulu last year and went out to Pantai Panjang area and it looks little bit funny on me, they built many hotels and bungalow just step walk the beach but the design of the building seems like have no architect touch on it, usual concrete house, minimal windows with black glass. However I enjoyed some times there, so tranquil, no traffic, less crowded and no one speaks english except my friend.. lol
