Petang Megang, A Traditional Event in Pekanbaru

fahmi — September 7, 2008 / 11:03 pm

Petang Megang is well known as a traditional event in Pekanbaru in order to greet Ramadhan (fast season). This event, in this year, took a place in Siak River and was opened by Pekanbaru major, Herman Abdullah.

In his speech, Herman Abdullah wanted this event become an annual event and can attract many visitors (tourists, I mean) to attend and (maybe) take a participation in the event.

There were many competitions were held in that event, such as catch a swan, take a meal together, and finally Balimau Kasai.

Balimau Kasai is a ritual, take a bath in the river. The purpose of this ritual is to clean up your physics since Ramadhan will arrive. After this ritual, the people will apologize to their relatives. the stories was taken from here, the pic was taken from here
